Student Driven Sustainability Awarded

The students, staff, parents and volunteers at Mentone Primary School are busy developing many sustainable initiatives on campus and their environmental leadership was recently recognised in the Sustainability Victoria 2020 ResourceSmart School Awards.

Mentone Primary School was awarded the Campus Infrastructure and Operations School of the Year – a huge endorsement for the combined efforts of the whole school community. Well done Cath Beaumont – Sustainability Leader, Marcelle Van Maanen – Principal and all the students and staff involved.

Making Life on a Permaculture Property Easier

“Running a permaculture farm is hard work. We do as much as we can by hand. So when we see a useful tool that can help us save time and energy it really catches our eye. We recently got our hands on a new Aussie designed and owned product call the BucketBarrow. Not only is it the easiest barrow to move that I’ve ever used, the bucket system makes it so incredibly versatile that it has become one of our most used tools. Growing Food and Community with the Grantham Gardeners

Our URBAN88 has been busy helping Carol and volunteers at the Sustainability Hub and Community Gardens at the Grantham Heritage Park in Seven Hills, Sydney. Carol took the time to share this fabulous feedback….

“I got to give my BucketBarrow a run today at the back of the community garden. We have been planting in loads of native and exotic perennials and covering the area with mulch. The BucketBarrow buckets make it so much easier to redistribute the mulch – no more awkwardly taking out handfuls to cover the planted out areas!”.

Carol is a horticulture student and self-described grower of “food, flowers and family”. She shares fabulous gardening advice and beautiful photography at @gardentogut.

BucketBarrow Hits the Road this Summer!

Look out for our new (yet still very classic!) BucketBarrow ’54 Chevrolet on the road and at gardening events around Victoria this summer!

First stop was the Yarra Valley Plant Fair and Garden Expo
where despite challenging Spring weather over 1,700 visitors enjoyed discovering all the latest plant varieties and learning tips from industry experts.

Thank you to the many gardeners, DIYers and property owners who visited the BucketBarrow display – many of whom purchased their very own BucketBarrow. The Bucketbarrow Chev arrived at the Expo full of stock and headed home empty!

Look out for the BucketBarrow team at the State Rose and Garden Show on 9-10 November at the magnificent Victoria State Rose Garden where you can experience over 5,000 stunning blooms set amidst 6 acres of garden displays.

Making Harvest Time Easier at Tesorino Farm

Tesorino Farm in North Gidgegannup, Western Australia is owned by husband and wife team Dave and Alison, both experienced horticulturalists, who grow fresh seasonal vegetables and make delicious produce to sell direct to their customers.

Dave recently contacted the BucketBarrow team to share this harvest time update…
“The (asparagus) season is just getting going at the moment … As the weather warms, we will be inundated with the spears up everywhere. It takes hours of work when in full swing. No more heaving a container along as you pick, with it getting heavier as you go. The BucketBarrow fits along the asparagus rows (unlike an ATV) and it’s a breeze to use each bucket. It has saved a lot of back breaking work.”
